Stewart refuses to take part in a Faces reunion unless Wood commits fully by walking away from Jagger and co

Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart

Face off: Ron and Rod

Rod Stewart would love to take part in a Faces reunion – but he won’t do it as long as bandmate Ronnie Wood remains a member of the Rolling Stones.

Rumours of a comeback have been circulating since Wood revealed the pair had spent a holiday together writing new material in 2009. But when a set of dates was announced the following year, they featured Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall in Stewart’s place.

Wood continues to insist the Faces will gather again – but now Stewart has revealed the terms on which he’d agree to the move.

He tells Billboard: “We get together and we mess about, but the trouble with Ronnie is he’s still committed to the Stones.

“Talking for myself and the rest of the band, we need a commitment, not just, ‘Well, I’ve got next month off.’ It doesn’t work like that – it’s not very professional.

“If he can give us the time then I’ll commit as well. I’d love to, but until he’s finished with the Stones, whenever that will be, I can’t commit.”

Mick Jagger’s outfit have yet to confirm they’re planning at least one more tour, which could take place in 2012 to mark the band’s 50th anniversary. Meanwhile, Stewart is working on an album with Jeff Beck, marking their first studio collaboration since their Jeff Beck Group days.
