Nailing it: Reznor

Trent Reznor is about to start work on new Nine Inch Nails material, he’s revealed.

He drew a line under the band’s touring career in 2009 after becoming disillusioned with life on the road, but always hinted he’d bring the project back to life in the studio.

He’s been working on new project How to Destroy Angels and on movie soundtracks, following his Oscar win for The Social Network. Now he says: “Nine Inch Nails is not dead, and I plan to focus on that next.

“The three columns of things I’m funnelling music into are How to Destroy Angels, NIN and films. I believe it will start to make more sense to you, and me, as everything unfolds.

“By having a few different outlets for my work I’m finding more inspiration within each one.”

Reznor has also revealed the truth behind his rumoured appearance in Tim Burton’s upcoming movie Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

He says: “I’m friends with Timur Bekmambetov, a very talented director who caught my eye with his film Night Watch. He asked if I was interested in scoring the film he’s doing with Tim.

“I was familiar with the book, so I read the script and it felt like an interesting challenge. Timur started gently pressing me to play a small role in the film – a cameo-esque role that would be kept under wraps and be a surprise on opening night.

“I was considering it when, a few days ago, I awoke to the news I am now starring in the film, which is obviously not true. Fuck. We both apparently forgot the internet existed and there are no surprises any more.

“So do me a favour and act surprised, okay?”
