Courtney suggests Dave fired Kurt and isn’t entitled to Nirvana royalties after fan holds up photo of Cobain during concert
Courtney Love suggested Dave Grohl fired Kurt Cobain from Nirvana and isn’t entitled to any of the band’s royalties during a foul-mouthed rant on Sunday night.
The Hole frontwoman reacted with fury at the SWU Festival in Brazil after a member of the audience held up a photo of Cobain during her band’s set.
It prompted a furious outburst followed by a walk-off, which only ended when the crowd were encouraged to insult Grohl’s band the Foo Fighters.
When the photo appeared Love stopped the show and said: “I don’t need to see a picture of Kurt, asshole, and I’m going to have you fucking removed. I’m not Kurt. I live with his shit and his ghost and his kid every day.
“Throwing that up is stupid and rude, and I’m going to beat the fuck out of you if you do it again.
“You weren’t fucking married to him, I fucking was. You didn’t get kicked out of a band by him, like Dave – he did. Go see the fucking Foo Fighters and do that shit.
“Great. We’ll leave now. Fuck you.”
She gave a one-fingered salute and left the stage, and after a moment of doubt her bandmates followed her off.
After talking to her behind the scenes, guitarist Micko Larkin went back on and said: “You guys want to see Courtney back? All right, then repeat after me, after three. The Foo Fighters are gay – one, two, three.”
Those of the audience who’d followed his English and his thick accent appeared to repeat the insult while Love watched from offstage. An event rep then spoke to the crowd in Portuguese before Love returned to the limelight.
Before restarting the show she appeared to take another dig at Grohl, saying: “I don’t care who you listen to at home, but if a guy takes money off my kid’s table, fuck him.”
