Ex Deep Purple keyboardist says fan support has made his life “better place to be” as he continues health battle
Former Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord has thanked fans for their outpouring of support after he revealed he was battling cancer.
In a brief statement earlier this month he announced he’d be taking time away from the live scene to deal with his illness, but vowed to be back again within a year.
Now he explains the messages of goodwill he’s received have left him an “absolutely overwhelmed, gratified and humbled musician.”
Lord tells supporters via his website: “Your responses to the news of my condition have touched my heart in a way that has truly helped to make my life a better place to be than it had occasionally threatened to become these last few weeks.
“Your wonderful messages wishing me strength and courage have given me even more strength and courage – and so much more than you can ever know.
“I read many of them with tears in my eyes, grateful for this cast-iron proof of the innate goodness of the human being.”
He also thanks those who have supported him on other websites, and adds: “The treatment continues and I am confident and being supported by my glorious family and an amazing group of friends. See you soon.”
Lord, who hasn’t revealed any details of his cancer, recently said writing new music would play a major role in his recuperation.
