Ford says she still feels like “20-year-old sexy rocker chick” at 51 and rejects plastic surgery, makeovers and working out
Lita Ford says she still feels like a 20-year-old “sexy rocker chick” at the age of 51 – and she has no interest in hiding the lines on her face.
The guitarist believes life on the road is all she needs to remain fit and healthy, and recommends loud music as a cure for feeling down.
But Ford does still put time and effort into how she looks. She tells Style Goes Strong: “We all do so much for beauty. On stage every crease and crack in your face shows.
“I’m not one for plastic surgery – I don’t even like makeovers. Every single line on my face has a story, and that’s why I don’t want to get rid of them. They’re there and I’m proud of them.”
The former Runaway says she stopped working out long ago: “I hate it. I can’t stand it. But I’ve found that just staying active is as good.
“Touring, travelling and doing shows keeps you fit. You should find something you love when it comes to sweating your butt off. It keeps you fit because you can’t stop doing it.”
Ford wouldn’t dream of cutting her hair off because it’s part of her connection to her youth. “I have long, blonde rocker chick hair,” she says. “If you love your long hair, let it grow longer. I think it’s sexy. I feel like I’m 20 and I still act like I’m 20. It’s fun to keep your old mindset because you never feel old when you’re young in your mind.”
And rock music contributes to her mindset: “I don’t care if you’re 50, 60 or 70 years old. When you’re in a bad mood or something stressful just happened, put on that loud rock’n'roll. Dance, laugh and sing at the top of your lungs.”
But the guitarist allows she’s made at least one concession to reaching her 50s. She says: “They make stretchy leather pants now. Go for the stretch and don’t worry about it.”
