Departed frontman Howard admits Killswitch bandmates realised before he did that it was time for him to end ten-year stint
Former Killswitch Engage frontman Howard Jones admits his heart wasn’t in the band any more – and his colleagues realised it before he did.
The band announced their surprise split with him last week after ten years together, leading to speculation previous singer Jesse Leach could return. He has made no statement, although Phil Labonte of All That Remains, who stood in for Jones in 2010 while he was absent for personal reasons, has stated he’s not up for the job.
Jones says in a statement: “I’ve had a pretty interesting couple of years to say the least, battling with some personal issues.
“One of the low points was being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The rest of the band stuck with me through it, and to be honest they are the ones that kept be going. The whole experience definitely put a scare in me.
“Recently we’ve been in writing mode but somehow I couldn’t get excited about the new album and all the touring that would go with it. The guys saw it before I did.
“In hindsight I now realise that my heart wasn’t in it. I have had an amazing decade with KSE. I love Justin, Mike D, Joel and Adam for hanging in there and standing by me no matter how bad it was.”
Jones says he’s almost certain to work in music again after having been in bands almost half his life, and warns fans to miss the next Killswitch album at their peril. He finishes: “Thanks everyone for letting me try to entertain you, and I wish myself well in my future endeavours. Gone fishin’.”
