Shamed: Gary Glitter

Super Bowl bosses have moved to ensure Gary Glitter earns no money from the showcase event.

The shamed glam star’s track Rock And Roll Part II has been a mainstay of the showcase event for years – but it’s been withdrawn from the 2012 extravaganza.

National Football League spokesman Brian McCarthy tells the Daily Mirror: “We will not be playing any version of it.”

Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, has spent time in jail in the UK and Vietnam over child porn and abuse charges.

His name came back into the spotlight last month after a Twitter account, claiming to be his official mouthpiece, announced he was planning a comeback.

But after 24 hours of controversy the person behind the account said: “This is not Gary Glitter. It was a social experiment.” A link was provided to a blog which discussed the risks of paedophiles using social media. Both the Twitter account and the blog were later deleted, although a new @OfficialGlitter account is now on Twitter.

Super Bowl XLVI will be contested by the New England Patriots and New York Giants. Madonna will perform the half-time show. It’s the biggest weekend on US TV – over 100m viewers are expected to tune in, and advertising is sold at over $115,000 a second.
