Turn it down: Bono

U2 frontman Bono thinks he sounds like a girl on record – especially on his band’s 1980s recordings.

And he admits he turns the radio down when one of his own songs is played.

In a TV interview with Ellen DeGeneres Bono says: “I do try to avoid it. I tend to turn them down – not because I don’t like them or believe in them.

“Actually it’s because my voice annoys me. I always thing I could have sung it better. I am sort of a macho, Irish guy, and particularly in those eighties songs, I think I sound like a girl.”

But despite his macho posturing he admits there’s one person in the world who scares him: R&B singer-songwriter Alicia Keys.

Bono tells the New York Post: “I was terrified the moment I met her – I was shaking in my boots. She has lioness energy. She can do anything.”
