Anthrax frontman Joey tried to talk his way into guesting with Dave Mustaine – and says he believes anything’s possible
Anthrax singer Joey Belladonna has revealed how he invited himself onto a Megadeth record during an elevator ride with Dave Mustaine.
And while the conversation was never carried forward, the vocalist doesn’t see why a collaboration couldn’t take place in the future.
Anthrax, Megadeth and their Big 4 colleagues Metallica and Slayer are gearing up for a show together in New York later this month, while Metallica are in the process of delivering details of their collaboration album with Lou Reed.
On the subject of team efforts within the Big 4Belladonna tells EspyRock: “I’m sure any of us working together would certainly make some good music. I’m not sure if any of us want to work with anyone in particular as most of the time it just seems like we’re doing our thing and they’re doing their thing, so it’s not possible.
“One time I was in the elevator with Dave Mustaine and he was working on a record, and I turned round to him and said, ‘So when should I show up in the studio to do some vocals? When are we going to do something together, man?’
“He was asking about the new Anthrax album and I was like, ‘Hey, I don’t know anything yet, no-one has told me about anything yet.’ But he says, ‘But you’re working on it, or something like that, right?’
‘So I ask him when am I going to show up on his record, and he just looked at me and laughed like it wasn’t possible. Why would any of that be not possible?”
Anthrax will release Worship Music, their reunion album with Belladonna, later this month.
