Bassist Bello joins Benante at drummer’s mum’s bedside – making him third band member to miss shows on current tour
Anthrax bassist Frank Bello has become the third member of the thrash giants to leave their current tour.
He’s joined drummer Charlie Benante, his uncle, at the bedside of Benante’s terminally-ill mother.
The rhythm section’s departure follows guitarist Scott Ian’s absence due to a viral infection for a number of shows last week. Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson from tour mates Testament stood in until Ian returned to the road. Their drummer Gene Hoglan is covering for Benante while Armored Saint’s Joey Vera will appear in Bello’s place.
The bassist says: “Hey friends, I’m sorry to tell you that I need to go home to be with my grandmother who is very sick, so I wont be playing the next few shows. My good friend Joey Vera will be filling in for me during this painful time. Please make him feel welcome. I’ll be back ASAP.”
At the point when Anthrax were performing without Benante and Ian, guitarist Rob Caggiano said: “We didn’t want to cancel any of the concerts – we didn’t want to let anyone down. So we decided to figure out a way to keep the show on the road.”
